Ben has teamed up with Michael Bridges, Sam Pattuzzi and Lucy Becker (*that’s me, waves*) to be able to create more awesome courses and support our growing community which currently consists of more than 100,000 students!
The Ben Tristem brand is slowly, but surely, morphing into GameDev.TV, so expect to start see his smiling face a little bit less, and our green leaf controller a little bit more!
In this article we'll let you know what we’ve been up in the last year, and a list of the places you can find (and connect with) us online.
Our ‘Learn to Code by Making Game – The Complete Unity DeveloperCourse’ has been an amazing success, we’re very proud of the 6,000+ 5 star reviews on Udemy and many of our students have gone on to release games on the iOS App Store and Google’s Play Store.
(Did you know Pokémon Go was made using Unity? Unfortunately not by one of our students, but watch this space!)
Virtual Reality and Unity Developer Exam:
Sam joined the team back in October last year and has been instrumental in getting two more Unity courses up and running; ‘Make VR Games in Unity with C#’ and ‘Pass the Unity Certified Developer Exam’.
While the first wave of Virtual Reality headsets may have flopped, 2016 sees the release of the first serious consumer VR headsets for 20 years. And with Google Cardboard (around £15) and the Samsung Gear VR (around £80) offering a cheap-and-cheerful form of VR using smartphones, it feels like Virtual Reality really is going to be accessible to everyone (and let’s face it Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg didn’t spend $2bn buying Oculus VR to release a niche headset just for high-end PC owners!).
Students can take our VR course with a Google Cardboard (+ 6" or smaller Android or iOS device, access to a Mac and XCode if building to iOS devices, and a Mac or PC capable of running Unity). It’ll also cover Oculus Rift, Gear VR and more.
Our latest course addition is the ‘Pass the Unity Certified Developer Exam’. Announced back in March 2015, the Unity Certified Developer Exam ‘offers aspiring game developers a means to obtain a credential that will enable them to validate and communicate their Unity knowledge and skills to employers, helping them to compete in the job market’.
Our course is helping students pass the exam, it gives us a buzz every time we read a review like this...
"Another happy customer right here! A few days ago I sat & passed the Unity Exam, and I give all credit to Ben & Sam's course for giving me the confidence to take the leap."
Away from Unity, we have our epic (pun intended!) ‘Unreal Engine Developer Course’ which teaches you C++, the industry standard game programming language, from scratch.
Ben is heading up this course, off the back of another successful Kickstarter which funded at over 1000%! Unreal engine is used by developers and publishers such as: Warner Bros, Steam, Dreamworks, Sega, Sony and Microsoft.
Unreal has been used to create many AAA titles in a wide range of genres including Batman, Bioshock, Borderlands, Gears of War, Mass Effect and Life Is Strange.
Ben’s currently having lots of fun playing with tanks…

We’re also in the process of launching our YouTube channel full of helpful game development tips. Don’t forget to subscribe :)
These sites have some pretty epic discounts to our courses, along with helpful blog articles and stories of what our students have got up to while taking our courses.
