After some research the Plantronics Voyager Legend seemed ideal. My local Apple Store stocked them so I grabbed one. It worked perfectly with my phone (a Google LG Nexus 4 which I love)
Don’t even bother trying to get a bluetooth headset working directly with your MacBook for Skype etc however. At the time of writing it’s just too much hassle at the time of writing.
Instead grab the Plantronics Voyager Legend UC (note the UK for Unified Communicator). It’s around 20% more money and so worth it. Here’s what’s better about the UK version…
- It comes pre paired with a tiny USB sound card, making Skype on your MacBook a breeze.
- It comes with a stylish desktop charger dock which is makes charging super easy.
- It has a wonderful little carry case that holds the earpiece and dongle PLUS it charges the earpiece from its own battery. How cool…
This thing is a joy. It tells you by voice what’s going on, has all the features you need and do I mention that cool charging case?
Switching seamlessly from PC to mobile, I think Plantronics have succeeded in their aim to make a Universal Communicator.
What headset do you use? What challenges do you have?
*If you use Skype on a Mac a call recorder (I use eCamm’s Skype Call Recorder then I recommend you explicitly set your microphone and speakers to the BT300 device explicitly. This is because if you leave as“ same as system” you may end up with only one side of the conversation being recorded.
